This is well played and I think the x factor besides the obvious is that this is an outdoor show. I believe that the 3 set format which was used in

72 at Veneta helped the band navigate the greater demands of an outdoor gig. The interchangeability of Dead tunes and how they sound in juxtaposition to each other is something to marvel at. There is not a weak tune in the bunch nor a night of a thousand stars in the set list. The real intensity to my ear starts at Truckin' They just about melt it down which was not standard in early 73 also the jam into the Other One almost has a pre-Wheel feel and that is three years prior to the Wheel ever being played. The jam on the later end of the Other One is way out there. Wow, peaking and freaking for sure! Phil has his bass making cello sounds EYES comes on as a balm for all that end of the world jamming. It had to be a real treat to hear EYES for the first time. They have the Chorus a little mish moshed it's BHT and then SES if you goof the first, it goofs the second. No biggie and then the jam comes in. Ah that Slipknot jam it must have been like honey to Robert Hunter having that riff to get the lyrics together They are just flying and then hit the brakes into China Doll I have been surprised to see some negative feelings toward this tune, For me this song always tempered me from getting to out of hand or better way to say it- - too deep into the debris of my mind. certainly this would make a good funeral tune. As a person leaves their earthly shell to stand before the Almighty. As a Christian I no longer fear that moment Because Jesus is my Advocate No longer my judge. Sweet China Doll nice to hear Donna & Bobby on the ending harmonies. Sugar Magnolia!!! a lot of Garcia on the initial backing vocals meltdown the Sugar Magnolia why don't we. *****SSDD E) Casey Jones this was not in order on my tape of this show which happened a lot due to making a gig fit. neat thing was putting filler in when there was time left on a side.

a couple friends in my 64 Biscayne, not knowing if the car would made it. In the middle of the first set we push and snake our way to the front rows and the energy there was most intense and unbelievable in a good way. The music was flowing from the inside and all around us. I remember one erratic acting guy ran up onto the stage and the Dead played the Marching Beats and he acted accordingly. And the rainbow appeared from nowhere at the conclusion of Here Comes Sunshine. At the end of the concert, my friend Joe and I looked at each other with our mouths wide open and both said WOW. Sweet memory and super show. Thanks GD for the great show and the upload.

Garcia seems to be up in the mix...and most of you don't mind that do you? A nice show from 1973 to add to your collection. If only the audio was perect... This is one of them 73' shows with the big long jam in "Playin' In the Band"...remember? This one's almost half an hour long...get ready for the "70's". You can't imagine the 70's, only remember it. I wish I was at this show. I wish Dick and his Pick or the GRATEFUL DEAD would release this show with pristine sound and video...I can dream can't I? I recommend using your EQ during playback of most of the shows on the IA, this one included. Windows Media Player has a 10 band EQ and SRS WOW effects that enhance the sound. Here's one way to download this show: The IA recommends users of Windows XP view this web-page with RealPlayer. RealPlayer is a free media player you can download at www.realplayer.com. For easy streaming or downloading you should use RealPlayer. Using RealPlayer to view this webpage, click the VBR M3U link to open the songs in the Playlist. If your Playlist is not open, open it by clicking the Playlist icon at the lower right hand corner of RealPlayer. Once the songs are in the Playlist, double click the song to play it, then click the record button at the lower left hand corner of Realplayer to record it. When the red line reaches the other end click the stop button to download the song. Your song is in the RealPlayer Downloads folder. Repeat these steps for each song. Eat, Drink, Be Merry and Listen to the GRATEFUL DEAD. Thanks for the LOVE from 1973. PS: Don't tell anyone how to download these shows...it's been downloaded 14,483 times as of this review.

saw them at least 6 times in the 70's and this was the BEST they ever played, period. I remember the rain, then came the sunshine back as they played "here comes sunshine" and the double rainbow. Played ALL afternoon for hours, what a magical performance I will never forget. Thanks for the memory! Forget about the sound quality- this just captures the spirit of the time.

them all but this is a welcome addition to the collection. The mix is a tad Jerry-centric (really need to hear more of Billy here) and for sure the sound quality could be higher. For me, all this leads up to 6/22/73 at the PNE Coliseum. The Other One -> Eyes makes all the right moves ...

Recording quality aside, let me reminisce. I was at this show. We camped in the fairground and partied most of the night. (Ahh the advantages of youth!)

Anyway, this was the 4th time I had seen the Dead - and even the previous great shows (Chicago Ampitheater [1] and Champaign [2&3]) did not prepare me for this 3 set extravaganza, which included a short rain and great rainbow. I asked a guy from my home town who I ran into "Are you having a good time?" He just gestured to the sky, to the crowd, and then to the Dead and looked at me with a grin. 'Nuff said. Thanks for getting this up.
